opera rocks

My friend, Erin Milley can sure sing. I saw her perform tonight for her Fourth Year Recital and it was absolutely amazing. She looked beautiful too.

computer lessons and aeroplanes

I spent all of today with my nan. Our original plan was to make homemade bread but once again I could not fall asleep for foreverrrr last night and ended up sleeping just a little too late to start it. So it's postponed til tomorrow. At least I got my 8 minute Abs and Buns workouts in. Lolz.

Gotta love the 90s--hilarious.

After our dinner of moose stew, we spent the afternoon at her old place to sort through boxes and to pick up some supplies for the bread (she's in transition of moving from her house to a smaller apartment). Before we left, I played the piano for a bit while she took a little rest on the couch--good for both of our souls. We went back to the apartment and started making supper of chicken, scalloped potatoes and veggies, and watched the news.

Then I dared to take on the task of teaching my nan about the wonders of email. My mom and auntie went in on a laptop together for her Christmas present and she's only had a lesson here and there on how to use the internet. Just about every time I visit I try to show her something she can look up.

I have to say it was pretty cute trying to convince her of an email address at all. Even though she'd been saying all along that she wanted to get an email one day, she was suddenly fighting me saying she didn't want to do it now, she'd do it later; I could tell the idea intimidated her. I assured her it was only for practice if she decided she didn't like it or want it later, that it could be "thrown away".

We finally chose a name for her, and I had to explain the difference between the email address and the password, that the email address is what other people see, and that the password is only for your own use to access the page and not for anyone else. I showed her the inbox, and where the messages go. We then went through the process of signing in and out a few times. I also wrote out the steps for her for when she attempts it herself. It brings me back to being 12 and having someone set up my hotmail account for me.

Other news, looks like Option A is here to stay. I got an email that Capt. Jason booked my flight for the south today: I'm officially leaving on May 27th. I have to be at the airport by 4am to catch a flight to Toronto, fly down to Miami, then back up to arrive at my destination of Charlotte at 4pm. This is the most indirect round-about way I will have ever taken in my flying history. It's going to be such a miserably long day of sitting and running to catch flights. Sigh.

Note to self: look up Teach for America.

then and now.

Coming across the pictures from two years ago inspired me to take out the camera again today. It’s a beautiful afternoon, even though (as usual) the wind is a little chilly.
Even though I’ve been a little sheltered here I’m thankful that I grew up in my small town, and that I got to live next to this beautiful view every single day. Having lived in the city for the last few years for university makes me realize how much I took/take this for granted.

I hope I’m lucky enough to live somewhere close to a body of water when I get settled. Even if it were a lake, or a river. I realize more than ever just how much the ocean is a part of me, how the gentle lapping to the crashing of the waves against the shore soothes my spirit. Listen to its rhythms under a full moon, surrounded by the stars and you’ll understand.

march

This was the view from my back veranda two years ago yesterday. March is the month when tons of ice pans come down from up north and spread across the ocean. It's amazing to see.
But it's not here this year. Not yet. I'm still holding on to the hope that these glorious chunks of ice will make its annual visit.

girls nights.

I'm thankful for these girls. Without them high school lunch breaks would have been awfully boring. I'm glad that we still make time to hang out, and that our relationships with each other never change even if months separate our visits.

butterflies

Elizabeth and I made this cake and these mini cupcakes for Catherine’s birthday. We brainstormed, then Liz did the baking, I did the decorating. Made the butterflies myself. It was funnn. :)
Oh yeah, and Catherine laughed and blew out the middle candles by accident. Oops. Silly girl.

And I think my favourite part, besides the rainbow chip, is the blue icing surprise in the middle.

evolve

Also, last night I finally made time to put together the scrapbook page I’ve had in my head for the last couple of months. Its the lyrics to a song by Bosc called Evolve—one of the prettiest love songs I’ve ever heard.

it's for the birds

I came across this artist’s blog just last week. Now I’m seeing her in random places. She knows how to add sunshine to any day. I have an art crush. Inspiring to see people the same age as me making cool things.

I want to take a cue from people like Katie Sokoler and Danielle Thompson, who balance out their bad days with a mix of pretty and colour!

"mine, mine, mine, mine"

These are no ordinary seagulls, I tell you.

They play a game with each other, a sort of King of the Fence Post if you will.

As Chandler, Jarrod and I took a walk along the Battery in Charleston, we watched as a bird from the back flew off its post to the one before it, kicking off the gull on said post. It had a domino effect as each bird repeated this action from the back to the front. There were more than enough posts to go around, but they simply preferred to steal from each other.

It was an amusing little quirk of our Saturday adventure.
